Confined space worker are those that work in an enclosed work space with limited entry and exit points. Confined spaces are not designed to be used for longer period of time in the workplace; places like tanks, storage bins, underground vaults, process vessels, pipelines pits etc are not meant to be used for operation on daily basis. The above mentioned workplace areas are very dangerous. Which is why, special training had to be given to employees that work such places owing to the high level associated risks and hazards involved. OSHA as a health and safety body that make use of warning signs like “permit- required, confined space” to indicate a confined space area in the workplace. Confined space training must be given to workers so that they can safely work in these areas. Some of the industry that usually makes use of confined spaces are listed below:
Industries That Makes Use of Confined Space
Oil and gas industries
Workers here work with oil reservoirs, storage tanks, big pipes, ditches and so many other confined workspace areas
They do deep land excavation, construction of bridges on the waterways where they may sometimes have to enter the water to make solid piles etc.
They also make use of storage tanks, warehouses, and so many other confined spaces. At times plants building can also be confined.
Things you should expect in a typical confined space training
You may sometimes need to enroll for the entry training courses, after which you may be allowed to take the advanced courses. And you are required to learn the following in the entry training.
Advanced trainings are in confined space operation
Far beyond the basic confined space trainings, below are some advanced trainings you may consider to opt for?
Working in a confined space is potentially dangerous. However, confined spaces are present in most of our industries, which means they can’t be ignored. To be on a safer side while working in these areas, you may need to undergo some basic confined space trainings. You will be taught some of the things you need to know about working in a confined space in the entry training after which you can further learn more in the advanced level.
